olympic polyclinic

An Olympic facility with a long term community legacy. Set within the Olympic village it provided 24 hour emergency service and 70% of the care delivered in the Village. Up to 16,000 Olympic and 6,200 Paralympic athletes and team officials were able to use the facilities. It provided primary care, sports and exercise medicine, a dentist, physiotherapy, ophthalmology, A&E, imaging, pharmacy, podiatry and other treatments.
All drug testing carried out during both the Olympic and Para-Olympic Games were managed from the clinic.

The facility was designed to incorporate future proofing so that we are able to refit the centre to fulfil its legacy role as an NHS Primary Care Centre for the local Community.

The polyclinic has now been renamed the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health and Wellbeing Centre.

maximising quality

We had to work within a rigid project budget as part of the Olympic budget. Despite numerous variations to the initial brief and budget added by the Client we still delivered the project successfully within their initial budget.

In order to meet our Client’s quality requirements against the fixed budget we ensured that their quality criteria were clearly detailed and documented at the outset. The Olympic Polyclinic had to be completed on time in order to facilitate the Olympic Games and it was of utmost importance that the project completed to the quality standards and requirements set jointly by our team with the client.

All operatives were briefed on their responsibilities and the quality standards required, before commencing work and again at every subsequent review meeting.

The removal and remediation of defects was reviewed at all project and design meetings, along with a contractual obligation for all designers to adopt this approach. We endeavoured to use products with exceptional durability and low maintenance requirements.

Day-to-day quality control was maintained by our experienced site manager who monitored performance ensuring works were carried out in accordance with the specification and agreed standards. Our business culture is to ‘build it right first time’ which ultimately eliminates cost and waste throughout our supply chain and ensures that we deliver within the clients’ fixed budget.
